Plymouth Chiropractors
Diagnosis, treatment, management & prevention of musculoskeletal conditions
Our approach is clear and simple. We want to help you overcome your symptoms and provide you with the knowledge to get well and stay well.
We provide a tailored, individual service, which includes giving you time to discuss your symptoms, listening to your concerns, determining what you want to achieve and providing a management plan that will effectively aid you back to fitness to allow you to get back to doing what’s important in your life.

What Does a Chiropractic Consultation & Treatment Involve?

CONSULTATION & ASSESSMENT
The aim is to determine the nature of your pain and understand the factors aggravating it. We start with a consultation to discuss your symptoms, concerns, health and medical history. We will then examine you by observing how you move, looking at and palpating the areas of concern and assessing the function of your joints. Specific orthopaedic, neurologic and chiropractic tests will also be done to aid a diagnosis. If further assessment, such as X-rays, MRI or ultrasound is deemed necessary we will discuss this with you.

REPORT OF FINDINGS
We will discuss the diagnosis with you and advise you about the appropriate treatment options. If chiropractic treatment is deemed to be beneficial for you, we will discuss the techniques, how many treatments you might need and the frequency as well as the benefits and possible risks/side effects. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and express any concerns that you might have. It is important to us that you feel informed and happy about the treatment plan.

TREATMENT
Treatment techniques are specific to the diagnosis and tailored to your needs and preferences. You will be given advice about how to manage your condition, what to continue with and what to avoid in the short term. Treatment may include exercise / rehabilitation, gentle spinal and joint manipulation or mobilisation, more traditional chiropractic ‘adjustments’ (clicking), massage and dry needling techniques. Chiropractic techniques are adaptable and can be very gentle and therefore suitable for all ages and during pregnancy.

RISKS & REACTIONS
A thorough case history and examination help us to minimise potential risks. Some reactions can occur after treatment although these are usually mild and may include a temporary increase in symptoms, localised soreness in the area treated, headache, transient light-headedness or tiredness. These usually resolve within 48 hours. If there are any additional risks based on your symptoms and general health we will discuss these prior to treatment.

ADVICE, EXERCISES & REHABILITATION
A chiropractic consultation and treatment involves a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s condition. The chiropractor will often use a variety of techniques to diagnose the problem, including physical examination, x-rays, nerve tests, and muscle tests. We will discuss with you the most appropriate treatment plan for you. This plan usually includes a combination of advice on lifestyle changes, exercises & rehabilitation

SUPPORTIVE CARE
We will regularly reassess your progress; adjusting the treatment techniques, advice and exercises to ensure you are on the right track to becoming well again. Your body’s healing is, however, a process rather than an event and may take time depending on how long you’ve had the symptoms, your age, general health, diet, stress and sleep quality. How well you adhere to the advice and exercise will, of course, also have a big impact on recovery time.
Empowering You To Stay Healthy
We realise how your symptoms can have far reaching affects on your life and similarly, how your life can impact on your symptoms. This is why we take the time to ask about your work and home life, your diet, exercise routines, sleeping patterns and stress levels. This information will allow us to determine potential aggravating/perpetuating factors for your symptoms and therefore give you the best advice about how you can make changes that will reduce the likelihood of future episodes and promote positive habits. We very much believe in being pro-active, encouraging you to do what you can to stop problems occurring in the first place, rather than re-active treatment and exercises once you’re already hurting.
We believe that knowledge is power, is prevention and prevention is better than cure. If we eat well, sleep well, think well and MOVE well, we are more likely to BE WELL.
As health care professionals we work in close partnership with other health care professions and will direct you to the best people to help you achieve your goals if we feel that it is necessary, either to compliment your Chiropractic treatment or instead of, if we feel that it is not the best option for you. We will always be open and honest with you.
If you’re unsure as to if chiropractic treatment will be helpful for you, please feel free to get in touch for a chat first. This is free of charge.
